Last night I had a young women’s activity which is when a bunch of girls ages 12-18 come together and do fun and spiritual things together. Well the young women aged 16-18 broke off last night to have our own activity. There are only two of us, but we also have two leaders, so four people all together. It just so happens that I was in charge of choosing what we were going to do, and of course I chose something food related. I love decorating cakes and cupcakes and with Easter just around the corner I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to decorate some cupcakes!
Then I had to choose what kinds of things would decorate those cupcakes, and I didn’t want it to be too hard so that everyone could do it. I saw these really cute nest cupcakes, but they were made of fondant and I didn’t have all of the tools she used in her tutorial, which you can find here; cakejournal.com/tutorials/how-to-make-easter-egg-nests-and-chick/
I looked online at images of Easter cupcakes, and I saw a nest made of chocolate shavings and I liked it, so that is what we did. They are so easy and fun to make. This would be something fun that kids could do with you.

You Will Need: 24 Cupcakes, cooled
A Batch of your Favorite White Frosting
Almond Bark or Favorite Chocolate other than white
Mini Robin’s egg candies
Once you have everything prepped, the first step is to frost the cupcakes. No need for any piping bags or tips, just a good old butter knife will do. You want to really pile on the frosting otherwise when you try to put the eggs on, they will just fall off. Besides, who doesn’t love frosting right?
Your next step will be to cut the chocolate. For this step, you are going to want your chocolate frozen otherwise it will melt in your hands and be a big mess and no one likes cleaning up messes. Use a sturdy knife and run it down the very edge of the chocolate so you get tiny shavings. Sprinkle these on the cupcakes and press down a little so they stick to the frosting. Then add your candy eggs and press into the frosting so they are nestled in there.
Now you have a choice to make. Either take a picture and eat them now. (My personal preference.) Or put them on a cute serving tray and have your friends over to oooh and awww at your creative genius before eating them. (Still a good choice.) Either way, remember to have fun!
